Wireless charging is a new type of charging technology which has emerged in recent years. This technology frees the phone from the limitations of the cable during the charging process and allows the appliance and power supply to be completely separated. It shows better advantages than traditional chargers in terms of security and flexibility. With the rapid development of science and technology, wireless charging has shown broad development prospects.

Now, the technology of wireless charging has begun to explore and apply in various fields. The farther the wireless transmission is, the higher the energy consumption of the device. To achieve long-distance high-power wireless electromagnetic conversion, the equipment consumes a lot of energy. Therefore, the realization of high-efficiency energy transmission of wireless charging is the primary problem of the popularity of wireless chargers. On the other hand, another problem to be solved is to establish a unified standard, so that different types of wireless chargers can be matched with different electronic products, thereby achieving wireless charging.

Advantages of wireless charging

  1. Convenience. Non-contact, one-to-many charging, compared with the ordinary wired chargers, it reduces the trouble of plugging and unplugging, and also avoids the phenomenon that the interface is not applicable or the contact is bad, what’s more,  it can also be conveniently used by the elderly.
  2. Versatility. A wide range of applications As long as the same wireless charging standard is used, no matter which device of any manufacturer can wirelessly charge.
  3. Novelty. Good user experience
  4. Have a common standard

Main standards of wireless charger: Qi standard, PMA standard, A4WP standard.

Qi standard

Qi standard is developed and promoted by Wireless Power Consortium(WPC, established in 2008), the world's first standardized organization. It’s an open interface standard that defines wireless power transfer using inductive charging over distances of up to 4 cm (1.6 inches). The system uses a charging pad and a compatible device, which is placed on top of the pad, charging via resonant inductive coupling. The standard ensures compatibility and universality of wireless chargers, as long as it is a product with the Qi logo, no matter what brand,  you can use the Qi wireless charger to charge it. In February of 2017, Apple joined WPC.

PMA Standard

Power Matters Alliance is committed to creating wireless power standards for mobile and electronic devices that comply with IEEE standards. PMA also uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to achieve wireless charging. Until now, AT&T, Google, and Starbucks have joined PMA.

A4WP

The Alliance for Wireless Power standard, launched in 2012, aims to set technical standards and industry dialogue mechanisms for wireless charging devices for electronic products, including portable electronics and electric vehicles. A4WP uses the principle of electromagnetic resonance to achieve wireless charging.
